Really good with 1 complaint

I purchased the two CLX10 kit in August of 2021 and quickly put them to use to cover a couple of hurricanes. I was initially worried about the battery not lasting long enough but at night these lights are really efficient and have great output. Because they're small and have some heft to them, they're aerodynamic and great to use for inclement weather. They're much better than panels that are basically like sails and tip over in a stiff wind. I'm about to go on a min-rant about the AC cables but I would buy these lights again because they're small (great for travel), efficient, they charge fast and the quality of light is good.

My complaint has to do with the whole AC cable system. First and foremost, if the light is waterproof, then why can't the cable that plugs in to the light be waterproof? The two light kit is $3200. For that price, the whole system should be waterproof. I'm not a fan of the proprietary dongle plug that plugs in to the light. I already know I need to buy an extra one because somewhere down the road, I'll break it or lose it. Lastly, the cables are far too short. This is most frustrating. I've since purchased the extender cable for the CLX10 but the first time I used it, the transformer hangs from the light head because the cables aren't long enough. So if it's hanging from the light head then that means it's putting stress on the dongle plug that plugs in to the light head. Overall, they really need to overhaul the whole AC system and make it longer, waterproof and a more common connection to the light head.

These are specialty lights for me. I'll probably only use them in inclement weather. The adapters and modifiers that come with the lights are worth it.

Good but with a couple of design issues

Great light, compact, integrated battery, excellent colour balance. The core things you want this light to do, it does very well.

A couple of niggles for a light at this price point...The whole outer housing is wobbly. While it's great you can swap the standard LED out for a tungsten-balanced one, the overall feeling is that the outer shell is poor quality. The way it locks into place (with the crappy sliding plastic knob), lacks precision and robustness. The lugs for attaching modifiers are also flimsy, especially the one that flexes to allow mods to be locked in. It does not fill me with confidence that it's going to survive extensive use, plus it's fiddly to dis-engage any attached modifier. Lastly, the power adapter. Seriously, that thing needs a re-design, it is massive and heavy. As the light only has 50 mins of battery at full power, you're gonna need to lug that big old brick to any longer shoots, basically almost doubling the overall weight of taking the light on any travels. As it has a proprietary connector, you have no choice but the use it. I would reduce the size of the brick, and introduce a more standard cable connector point to the light.

The future of lighting is here now!

Not much bigger than a speedlight with 10,000 lumens of light output and a self contained battery! The CLX10 has become my number one light source for studio and location portraiture. I use a pair of CLX10's along with 2 of the CL-2000's and I absolutely love the portability, small size, power and best of all... I can use all of my Bowens mount modifiers so my lighting methods remain the same as when I shot exclusively with strobes.

Great light

I own a couple CLx10 and a couple Stella 8000. The CLx has great output for such a small light. Easy to travel with and has a small footprint when out in the field shoots. I mostly do video and have shot many intvws with the lights. Do recommend getting different modifiers for all the different situations.

Very Versatile

I take this everywhere I shoot. Great for journalistic work where flash is not an option.
