I just installed the light yesterday. The instructions are illustrations rather than in text but they got the job done. The light charged up quickly. The bracket was easy to strap on the bike and I think it will hold the light firmly in place. You need to remove a thumb screw to quickly detach the light from the bracket. The light seems to work very well once I figured out how to "unlock" the settings. I believe you need to depress the button longer than the 4 seconds as shown in the instructions. The light seems to give adequate illumination and should also be an adequate warning to drivers. And I like the color!
I have several smaller Light and Motion lights, 450, 500, and 950 and a rear light and they all rock. I got this one because I'm on unlit trails and I commute at 4:30 to 5 in the morning. So far after only a few uses it doesn't seem to charge all the way up and it only lasts about 45 minutes on high. All the other older ones still go over an hour and I've had them for several years. Very disappointing.
Requested help since I just recently bought it and all I got was an e-mail telling me to look at using other chargers and to understand that a PC USB is a low amperage charger. Honestly I understand that they probably have to reply with this but it came off kind of condescending. It's pretty much going to the garbage.
I own two of the Light and Motion Octa Beauty Dish by Chimera for my Stella CLX-10 LED lights. I have the broadcast Plus Kit and this Chimera has been a very good addition to my kit. I like it because it folds flat and can be easily packed. It took me about 2 minutes to setup. It provides a very good soft light for the CLX-10. I use it with the custom made Light and Motion Chimera Speed Ring. This setup has worked very well for me. I have attached some photos so you can view the setup and also see the quality of the soft light that it produces.
After identifying a defect on the body of my CLX10, I was able to work with the team at StellaPro to resolve the issue. After contacting StellaPro, there was very good communication between the team and myself. Their responses were timely, and we reached an agreeable conclusion. I must say I love these little lights, and the fact that I can use all my Profoto and Bowens mount light modifiers with them. I ended up purchasing another CLX10, and I must say the discount was real and fantastic. I may consider replacing my other strobes with the Reflex models as well. Portable is the way to go!!! Earlier, after my first purchase, StellaPro provided me with a couple of extension cables for my CLX10 at no charge. Much appreciated and it makes a world of difference. Great team!!!
I wonder what the old version was like.
For me, the biggest thing is, while it's not necessarily meant to take large modifiers, I wish it did a better job of handling them for the times when it's just easier to use what's available. I think it could still use a bit more tension (or maybe have that part made of metal so I'm more comfortable torquing it down). That maybe would not be a complaint if there was a little more guidance on how large a modifier could realistically be used. Also, I wish the angle between the mount and the battery grip was a little bit larger.
Other than that, not bad!
