Stellapro Clx10

I purchased the Stellapro Cx10 light kit over a year ago. I have to say this product is a great tool to have as a photographer. It allows for accurate color from 3k-5k .The modifiers it comes with help create story like photographs in all situations. The lights have opened my eyes to a new style of shooting and allow me to worry less about my light source and focus more on creativity. The customer service you receive from the company is beyond amazing. They are very prompt with answering all my questions and also have helped fix any issues I have run into.

Love the lights but not too thrilled with the charging cable.

I purchased for work a se of the STELLAPRO 2 LIGHT STORYTELLER KIT

I know this is a common complaint but saying it along with other who have mentioned this in hopes that L&M sees the need for a slight redesign to a fantastic product.

These Lights are fantastic. Able to shoot on the run with ease without looking for an electrical outlet. Very powerful and easy to use and enhances my photographer tremendously. The only issue? The first time I pulled them in to change them up ... the charging cable came falling out and does so every time with even the slightest touch or vibration.

We bought these in September but due to the pandemic, I only got to use them for the first time this week. I read about this same issue from other photographers reviews and sure enough ... it is an issue.

If they hadn't worked so well after the charging process I would have returned them although (I will have to return the one with the extremely loose cable) ... but again beyond the charging issue ... I absolutely love these lights.

But if I was using them as studio lights with the wall plug ... not sure if I would buy them with this issue in mind until they redesign the charging cable light plug system. The slightest tug from the weight of the charging cable pulls the cable right out of the light charging socket. The plug connects is the weakest part of a very detailed lighting design.

I heard some people have even have this same issue when purchasing the "extension" charging able accessory.

With such sleek design for the lighting units, and others response to the same issue, I am surprised Light and Motion did not catch this issue in the design or production stages.

I want to buy a set of these for myself but I hesitate until they fix this issue.

Please address this L&M .... I want a set of these lights for my own photography.

Please! ....

Really good with 1 complaint

I purchased the two CLX10 kit in August of 2021 and quickly put them to use to cover a couple of hurricanes. I was initially worried about the battery not lasting long enough but at night these lights are really efficient and have great output. Because they're small and have some heft to them, they're aerodynamic and great to use for inclement weather. They're much better than panels that are basically like sails and tip over in a stiff wind. I'm about to go on a min-rant about the AC cables but I would buy these lights again because they're small (great for travel), efficient, they charge fast and the quality of light is good.

My complaint has to do with the whole AC cable system. First and foremost, if the light is waterproof, then why can't the cable that plugs in to the light be waterproof? The two light kit is $3200. For that price, the whole system should be waterproof. I'm not a fan of the proprietary dongle plug that plugs in to the light. I already know I need to buy an extra one because somewhere down the road, I'll break it or lose it. Lastly, the cables are far too short. This is most frustrating. I've since purchased the extender cable for the CLX10 but the first time I used it, the transformer hangs from the light head because the cables aren't long enough. So if it's hanging from the light head then that means it's putting stress on the dongle plug that plugs in to the light head. Overall, they really need to overhaul the whole AC system and make it longer, waterproof and a more common connection to the light head.

These are specialty lights for me. I'll probably only use them in inclement weather. The adapters and modifiers that come with the lights are worth it.

Wonder alternative to flash during a wedding ceremony!

My view on wedding ceremony photography is to be the fly on the wall... not the main attraction. Meaning short lenses and flash makes me crazy! A few years ago I purchased the Stella 1000 for my evening ceremonies where I would be losing all my natural light and as professionals, we all know overhead lighting is, more times than not, awful! I moved across the country and my focus now is more portrait than wedding. I went to use my trusty Stella light a few months ago only to discover she wouldn't charge or turn on anymore. My heart broke but I moved on. When my good friend Nelly asked me to be her wedding photographer I was ecstatic! I knew she was having an indoor ceremony that started AT sunset. It was fate that I saw an ad on Facebook for the new CLX. (or just really great marketing) The Portrait kit arrived just in time and worked beautifully during the ceremony! The CLX ran on 4000L for 1hr 15min.

Good but with a couple of design issues

Great light, compact, integrated battery, excellent colour balance. The core things you want this light to do, it does very well.

A couple of niggles for a light at this price point...The whole outer housing is wobbly. While it's great you can swap the standard LED out for a tungsten-balanced one, the overall feeling is that the outer shell is poor quality. The way it locks into place (with the crappy sliding plastic knob), lacks precision and robustness. The lugs for attaching modifiers are also flimsy, especially the one that flexes to allow mods to be locked in. It does not fill me with confidence that it's going to survive extensive use, plus it's fiddly to dis-engage any attached modifier. Lastly, the power adapter. Seriously, that thing needs a re-design, it is massive and heavy. As the light only has 50 mins of battery at full power, you're gonna need to lug that big old brick to any longer shoots, basically almost doubling the overall weight of taking the light on any travels. As it has a proprietary connector, you have no choice but the use it. I would reduce the size of the brick, and introduce a more standard cable connector point to the light.
