500 lumens is a standard lumen output to not only be seen by other road users; it provides significant light to observe the road in front of you with clarity. Brighter lights offer more field-of-view.
All Vis can remain in High mode for 1.5 hours. If you are looking for more lumens over time, it would be suggested to purchase a brighter model. For Example: An Vis 1000 can maintain 500 lumens in its Medium setting for 3 hours!

Vya uses smart sensors that know when you go. Once the light is locked into the mount, it will recognize movement and turn on as you begin to ride. When you come to a complete stop or park your bike, it will wait about 20 seconds before turning off to conserve battery. The light recognizes any movement, so even if your at a stoplight for more than 20 seconds, it senses the minimal movement of you straddling your bike and knows to stay on.

I now own 2 VIS 1000 headlights, one VIS 500 headlight and two VIS 180 pro taillights. They are high quality, very bright and easy to use with no complicated features switching between modes. I lost the screw that keeps the headlight from slipping out of the mount. I called customer support and they quickly sent me a new screw at no charge. I do suggest using a product such as Loctite Removable Threadlocker for nuts and bolts when installing/reinstalling the screw so it won't work its way out. I have had other bike lights fail due to moisture getting into the light. I trust that this won't happen with these Light and Motion lights since the company also makes lights for divers. My only suggestion for improvement would be to make the cover for the headlight charging port permanently attached to the headlight. It's small and could be easily lost.

I've been using my VIS 500 for commuting in the city 80 min/day 3 or 4 days a week. I find I can reliably charge it once a week and use it all week easily, and sometimes well into the next week. I use the pulse mode, since I'm more concerned about being seen than seeing where I'm going. It's plenty bright at night, and it survives being dropped, rained on, and all the things you'd expect it to be subjected to riding around Chicago.
It's a great light - but even better is that when I messed up charging it, I got in touch with customer service and they replaced it. !!within 5 days!! No hassle, friendly service. I wish I needed a lot more bike lights!
light is perfect on my road bike. fits under the garmin mount i get 7-8 hours on a charge on the flash setting . then i had a minor accident and broke the mount. customer service offered to repair free of charge and sent a return mailer. impressive customer service!
